Clay County Awarded $300,000 Community Oriented Policing Grant

Clay County was officially notified yesterday by The Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) that the Clay County Sheriff's Office has been named in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 (Public Law 117-328) as a $300,000 grant funding recipient under the FY 2023 COPS Technology Program.


Clay County leadership applied for the technology project funding, titled: “Enhancing Community Policing for Clay County, NC by Improving the Flow of Critical Technology" to provide upgrades to current equipment while addressing future needs. County Manager Debbie Mauney was instrumental in the application process.


Sheriff Mark Buchanan and his staff are currently working to finalize the list of information technology upgrades to potentially include new computer servers, radios, body cams, dash cams and the like to better facilitate communication and accountability throughout the Sheriff's Office.


Clay County leadership is thankful for the men and women of the Clay County Sheriff's Office and their dedicated service to the community.
